SA: refugees welcome to USA

Brussels 08.03.2025 The South African government said it will not engage in “counterproductive megaphone diplomacy” following the newest social media post by U.S. President Trump reiterating his position on confiscating land, and relevant law.

Trump extended his invitation to relocate those seeking “to flee [South Africa] for reasons of safety” to all farmers and offered them citizenship.

South Africa previously announced that Trump had misunderstood the country’s new land expropriation act.
However it has already led to the U.S. President freezing financial aid to the country.

South Africa official said that it is still looking forward to an opportunity to engage with the Trump administration to understand the actual grievance they have regarding the SA.

“We believe that they know there are no land seizures in South Africa and they know the truth,’’ Vincent Magwenya, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, told national broadcaster SABC.

Magwenya added that they are now at a point where they do not believe that the only American issue is related to land seizures or the so-called “killing of white farmers”.

The US “must just be bold enough to put their issues on the table, and then we can engage on those issues,’’ he said, adding “we are hoping that at some point soon, we will be able to have that engagement, and the real issues will be placed on the table instead of the peddling of lies that we have refuted time and again.’’

On February 10 President Trump issued an executive order freezing all U.S. financial aid to South Africa, citing a recently passed land appropriation law and the country’s genocide case against Israel.

“ADDRESSING HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA: On Friday, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to address serious human rights violations occurring in South Africa.

As encapsulated in its recent land confiscation act to seize disfavored citizens’ property without compensation, the government of South Africa blatantly discriminates against ethnic minority descendants of settler groups.
As long as South Africa continues to support bad actors on the world stage and allows violent attacks on innocent disfavored minority farmers, the United States will stop aid and assistance to the country.
The United States will establish a plan to resettle disfavored minorities in South Africa discriminated against because of their race as refugees.” https://za.usembassy.gov/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-addresses-human-rights-violations-in-south-africa/
