Yemen: Al Hudaydah port in flames

Brussels 21.07.2024 In response to the lethal drone strike in Tel Aviv launched by the Houthis rebels early Friday morning on July 19, the IAF conducted a massive strike targeting the Red sea Houthi-controlled port city of Al Hudaydah, Yemen.

At least three people were killed and scores more injured in Israeli airstrikes on a Yemeni port, Houthis have said, a day after the Iran-backed group claimed a deadly attack on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

The Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said the strikes targeted oil facilities in the port on Yemen’s west coast, killing at least three people and injuring 87, most of them with “severe burns.”

Over 20 Israeli warplanes, including F-35s, F-15s, and aerial refueling tankers, participated in the strike, which took place over 1,700km from Israel. The strikes destroyed a massive Houthi weapons depot attached to oil storage facilities, the power station for the city, and numerous other military targets, which led to the port being completely shut down and a total loss of power in Al Hudaydah.

All Israeli planes and pilots returned safely after completing an almost 4,000km round mission.

Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam said the strikes had also hit civilian targets and a power station. He also slammed what he defined was “brutal Israeli aggression” aimed at increasing the “suffering of the people of Yemen” and pressuring the group to stop its support of Gaza.
