CAR: Russia donates $2M food aid

Brussels 21.12.2025 Russia has allocated $2 million for humanitarian food aid deliveries to the Central African Republic (CAR) via the UN World Food Programme. This news was announced by Russian Ambassador to the CAR Alexander Bikantov.

The food deliveries have already been made both through bilateral channels and through the World Food Programme (WFP). The allocated funds are intended specifically for further assistance under this program. He added that the food will be purchased in Russia. Typically, such deliveries include grain, corn, and peas, the ambassador explained.

In the beginning of the year on January 16 talks were held in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and CAR leader Faustin Archange Touadéra, who was in Russia on an official visit. In 2025, the two countries celebrated the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During his visit, Touadéra noted that the CAR army, trained by Russian instructors, is capable of effectively countering terrorist threats and defending the country’s territorial integrity.

Hunger in the Central African Republic (CAR) is a severe, chronic crisis driven by relentless conflict, displacement, poverty, and political instability, leaving nearly half the population food insecure, with millions facing emergency levels of hunger, high malnutrition, and severe economic hardship despite the nation’s potential. Major drivers include armed groups controlling resources, hampering agriculture, worsening inflation, climate shocks, and limited humanitarian funding, creating a cycle where basic needs go unmet, and children suffer severe acute malnutrition.
