Somalia: U.S. anti-terrorist operation

Brussels 27.11.2025 The U.S. special forces have launched a significant ground operation targeting the Islamic State’s Somalia Province (ISSP) in the Baalade Valley of Puntland.
Heavy clashes are reportedly taking place between American forces and ISSP fighters throughout the rugged Cal Miskaad mountain range. (Image above: illustration).

Sources indicate that roughly one hundred U.S. special operations personnel are involved in the mission, pushing deep into Puntland to strike ISSP strongholds in the mountainous terrain.

On February 1, 2025, 10 days after being inaugurated for a second time, President Trump announced that the U.S. had carried out air strikes targeting senior leadership of ISIL (ISIS) in Somalia.
“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States,” his post on X read. This marked Trump’s first military action overseas.

Islamic State’s Somalia Province, also known as Abnaa ul-Calipha, is an affiliate of the Islamic State that emerged in 2015 and operates primarily in the mountainous regions of Puntland, northern Somalia. The group is a key financial and recruitment hub for the broader Islamic State network, with an estimated 1,000 fighters as of early 2025. It is known for its sophisticated fundraising and is a rival to al-Shabaab.
